Well it’s taken me awhile to write Sunday’s blog,
mostly because I find it rather depressing.
After week 1, I had lost 9 pounds and was looking forward to another 6 –
7 on week two. Now yes I know those are
huge numbers and it was probably a pipe dream to begin with, but watch enough
Biggest Loser and you believe any crazy number is possible. However, I instead had a classic second week
let down. As my body panicked and held
on with everything it had.
This week I lost about 1 ½ pounds -- not even a full
two pounds. Here’s how they broke down:
Monday 11th – 303.8
Tuesday 12th – 303.0
Wednesday 13th – 303.0
Thursday 14th – 303.0
Friday 15th – 303.0
Saturday 16th – 302.2
Sunday 17th 302.4
As you can see I spent most of the week at 303
before I dropped a little more at the end of the week. I have been asking the experts (all the
people who seem to know more about this then I do) and there seem to be a few
thoughts on why this happened.
1. My body fought back – Having lost 9 pounds the
first week (well over the 2 recommended pounds). My body basically went into save mode,
concerned that I was losing too much body fat.
2. My
first week was mostly water weight and this week I have dug into the fat.
3. My
weight may not be dropping but my inches are.
4. I’m
not getting enough calories – You apparently have to get calories to burn
fat. (Something about metabolism and all
that stuff). If you have been following
my diet I was running 1400-1500 Calories a day most of last week. If you subtract what I am burning in workout
alone I have been dropping well under the starvation limit of calories.
Although I think they all may play a part in this
week, 4 makes a lot of sense. If I look
at the one day I lost weight last week, it fell following the night I had Pizza
and such when my wife came home and consumed almost 1900 calories. I think this
week I will concentrate even more on pushing my calories to the 1800-2000 range
and see if that helps anymore.
On a separate note I had a great Father’s day. My daughter got me The Next Generation movie
collection on Blu Ray. And my son got me
a gift card for Playstation network. My
lovely wife got me Amazon money so I can use it for even more stuff on my
kindle. My wife also cooked a large healthy
meal, including Baked Chicken, Salad, Sweet Potatoes, and Whole Wheat Dinner
rolls. A great meal and a great
afternoon.
Well since I am finally finishing this Monday, I
will need to get started on today’s blog.
Till Then…
As your beach body friend and a few others should tell you. Muscle weighs more than fat so the weight isn't telling the truth. The inches however are. Keep in mind if you are loosing 1 1/2 pounds of fat a week that is amazing and in order to keep doing that you have to burn more than you consume, which you are doing. It is perfectly normal to hit that spot in week 2 or 3, it is only a bridge you need to get over.
